WHY AUTHORS CHOOSE NARRATE

Made for authors, not sound engineers.

No studio. No recording sessions.

Your manuscript is the starting point. Choose the language, accent, pacing, and narration style, and Narrate produces the audiobook for you.

Your own voice is an option.

Want your audiobook to sound like you? With your explicit permission, Narrate can create a private voice profile from a short recording and use it with our text-to-speech voice engine to narrate your book.

Built for your readers.

Receive chapter files, the complete audiobook, a listening page, and a QR code that connects your physical book directly to its audio edition.

HOW WE NARRATE

You direct the performance.

Your book should sound like your book. Give us the direction and we apply it throughout the narration.

Pronunciation

Specify how names, places, acronyms, local terms, Swahili, Sheng, or specialist vocabulary should be pronounced.

Character direction

Tell us how different characters should sound and feel — warmer, older, formal, distant, energetic, or conversational.

Language & accent

Choose the language and accent appropriate for your book and your audience.

Pacing & emphasis

Direct pauses, emphasis, emotional moments, and passages that need a different pace.

YOUR OWN VOICE

Your book. Your voice. Without recording every chapter.

QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Frequently asked questions.

How does Narrate turn my manuscript into an audiobook?

You send us your manuscript and tell us how you want it to sound. We prepare and generate the narration, you review it, and we deliver the finished audiobook with your chapter files.

Do I need to record anything in a studio?

No. There are no studio sessions and nothing for you to read into a microphone. Your manuscript is the starting point, and we produce the audiobook from it.

Can the audiobook sound like my own voice?

Yes. With your explicit consent we create a private voice profile from a short sample you record, and use our text-to-speech voice engine to narrate your book. Personal voice setup is KSh 2,000 one-time. You approve the voice and hear a preview before full production.

How is my personal voice profile handled?

We create a voice profile only with your explicit permission. You can authorize it for the current project or choose to keep it available for future Narrate projects. You can also request deletion of the stored voice profile.

Read our Copyright & Rights page →
Which languages and accents can you narrate in?

We narrate in the language your readers speak, with an accent that suits the book. Send us your language and accent requirements and we will confirm what is available before you commit.

How do you get names and local terms right?

You send pronunciation notes with your manuscript and we apply them to the narration script before any audio is generated. You also review the result and can request corrections.

Can different characters sound different?

Where a book calls for it, yes. Tell us how each character should come across — warmer, older, formal, distant — and we direct the narration accordingly.

How long does production take?

Production is faster than booking studio time, because there are no recording sessions to schedule. Total turnaround depends on manuscript length and how many review rounds you want, and we confirm it with your quote.

How is the price calculated?

Audiobook production starts at KSh 1 per word, with a KSh 2,000 minimum production charge. Longer manuscripts automatically qualify for lower volume bands. The estimator applies those tiers progressively, so each portion of a manuscript receives the rate for its band. Optional services such as own-voice setup or custom production requirements are shown separately where applicable.

Do longer books cost KSh 1 per word?

Not necessarily. Longer manuscripts qualify for progressive volume pricing, which lowers the rate for the words in each higher volume band. Use the estimator to see the estimate for your book.

I have several books. Do you offer packages?

Yes. If you’re producing several titles, contact us and we’ll discuss a multi-book production package based on the manuscripts and production requirements.

Talk to us about several books →
Can I hear the narration before the full audiobook is produced?

Yes. We produce a preview passage first. You listen, request any corrections, and once you approve, the complete audiobook is produced and delivered.

Where can I publish my audiobook?

You can publish on Narrate Marketplace. We also help you prepare submissions for Spotify, Kobo, Storytel, BookBeat, Everand / Scribd, Libro.fm, OverDrive / Libby, Audiobooks.com, and Google Play Books. Some destinations require a participating distributor; Google Play Books has conditional narration eligibility. We confirm suitable destinations for your title, including narration eligibility and territory requirements, before submission. Each external platform decides whether to accept a title.

Discuss publishing your audiobook →
What files will I receive?

Every chapter as its own audio file, a complete listening edition, and a listening page with a QR code that connects your physical book to its audio edition.

Who owns the audiobook you produce?

Your manuscript remains yours. The rights and permitted uses for the finished audiobook are confirmed in your production agreement, including the delivery and usage rights applicable to your chosen voice option.

Read our Copyright & Rights page →
Will my manuscript be private?

Yes. Your manuscript is used to produce your audiobook. No public listening link exists until you choose to share one, and you can ask us to delete stored project files.
